~ Yukon History
Founded in 1891, Yukon real estate already had several residences and businesses up and running within its first two months of existence thanks to A.N. Spencer. Chief amongst these businesses was the first bank in the city and a couple of real estate offices owned by Spencer's brothers.
The city was incorporated in 1901 but didn't have sewer or water services until 1910. There was a streetcar line, or interurban, running between El Reno and Oklahoma City from 1911 through1940, allowing easy transport of Yukon citizens. The streets weren't paved until 1926, when Highway 6 was built.
The main industry in Yukon during its beginnings were grain and feed mills. Yukon Mill & Grain was the primary business at the turn of the century and Dobry Mills came along in the early 1930s. Along with this increase in business, workers rushed in to inhabit Yukon OK real estate. The one tiny schoolhouse has been increased to a moderate sized school system comprised of several schools covering kindergarten through high school. The few houses of worship have blossomed into a large assortment of churches covering many different denominations.
From its start as a panel of three men, the local Yukon government has grown into its current system, which is a city council comprised of five people utilitizing the city manager system. The City is in charge of all utility services, local law enforcement, the fire department, city parks and equipment and building upkeep as well as many other services.
